What's ahead for the Vols?

The buzz has been flying for a week, but out of respect for Fulmer no official statements will be made until Monday. Nonetheless, here's the news as it's being reported today.

Kiffin is already out on the recruiting trail, and he's got Peyton's seal of approval. Oh, and he's bringing his dad (Monte Kiffin) to be D-Coord. Can you say Kiffinville?

Big weekend for the Vols

We said goodbye to Coach Phil Fulmer, who, no matter what your opinion of his coaching, is a class act. He deserved to go out on top, in this case, with a win and on the shoulders of the players who love him.

December 2: Lady Vols vs. GWU

The Lady Vols are coming to DC!

The reigning National Champion Lady Vols hit the hardwood at George Washington University on December 2 at 7:30PM to take on the Lady Colonials, and we want to make sure there is plenty of orange there to welcome them.

Pregame Happy Hour and Ticket Pick up
Even if you can't join the group of almost 70 people going to the Lady Vols game, you are welcome to join us for the pregame happy hour at McFadden's. Unless alternate arrangements have been made ahead of time, tickets purchased with our group will be distributed at the happy hour. Someone will be at the bar until at least 7PM with the tickets.

McFadden's (http://www.mcfaddensdc.com/)
2401 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20037
We have reserved a room in the upstairs bar of McFadden's under the UT DC Alumni group name. The Happy Hour specials include 1/2 off drinks and appetizers.

The game starts at 7:30pm in the Smith Center (600 22nd St NW, Washington, DC 20037). It's a good idea to get to the arena no later than 7PM to get seats. We are going to try to sit as a group in sections 110 - 112 (http://gwsports.cstv.com/facilities/gewa-smith-center-diagram.html). Questions? Email Chaya at chaya@utdcalumni.com or Peter at peter@utdcalumnil.com.

Elections are upon us!

The 2007/2008 Board has done a terrific job this year, and it's time to pass the torch. We're doing elections a bit differently this year. Since we had the Big Orange Caravan this spring, we're going to do the elections online this summer. Officers will still take their positions at the Freshman Picnic.

The following positions are up for election this summer. Board members help direct the Chapter for the upcoming year. The Board meets 3 or 4 times a year. Any alumni may serve on the Board, regardless of how long you have been in the area. Friends of UT (non-alumni) are eligible to hold at-large positions. If you have any questions or are interested in serving in one of the following positions, please contact Lindsay and Stephen.

Vice President/President-elect
This position is a one year appointment. The vice president automatically becomes the president after his term. You must be an alumni of the University of Tennessee to be elected.

Secretary
During his one year appointment, the secretary keeps the minutes of all meetings, helps with the Chapter updates and is responsible for the official Chapter roster. You must be an alumni of the University of Tennessee to be elected.

3-year Member-at-large
This is a three year appointment. Members-at-large participate in Board meetings and help direct the Chapter.
Alumni and friends of the University of Tennessee are eligible for this position.

1-year Member-at-large
This is a one year appointment. Members-at-large participate in Board meetings and help direct the Chapter.
Alumni and friends of the University of Tennessee are eligible for this position.

If you're interested in getting involved with the Board, but you'd like to learn more about how we work, consider joining the Chapter Steering Committee. The steering committee has an open invitation to all Board meetings and helps direct the chapter throughout the year. Contact Lindsay and Stephen if you're interested.

Race for the Cure: Saturday, June 7, 2008

This is another charity event that we’ve participated in for the last couple of years. Mark your calendars and be on the look out for details on joining the fun.

Professional Development Series

As a part of the new Young Alumni Program at the Knoxville campus, we’re exploring ways to bring quarterly speakers to the area for all alumni and friends. If you’re interested in joining the planning committee for this new initiative, please contact Lindsay Murphy. Young is certainly a relative term, so all ages — as well as all campuses — are encouraged to join!

April 26: Hands on DC

We participated in this event last year and had both a fun and fulfilling day. This year we are adding our fellow SEC schools to the team because more people can do more good!

To let you know about the cause, Hands on DC is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that conducts a yearly citywide work-a-thon to improve the physical condition of DC public schools, raises funds to support college scholarship programs for public school students and encourages greater community involvement in the public schools.

This year’s work-a-thon takes places on April 26, 2008, at over 30 schools across DC.
To join our team, visit our team page at http://handsondc.kintera.org
When registering, choose our team name "SEC Challenge."
You do not have to be SEC alum to join the team so feel free to pass along to everyone. Bragging rights go to the SEC school with the most volunteers.

We would appreciate your support as a team member! If you can't make it to the event, you can always donate to the cause through the website as well!

Please contact our Team Lead, Andrea Price, if you have any questions.
